Hong Kong was a former British colony, and was handed over to China in
1997 and is an autonomous territory. It is a port and has become one of the
most important financial centres of the world. Being part of China, it is
naturally a part of United Nations Organisation, World Trade Organisation,
etc. However, in contrast to mainland China, whose currency is Yuan, its
currency is Hong Kong Dollar. It is the fourth most densely populated place in
the world. It has one of the highest per capita income of the world and the
seventh highest life expectancy in the world. It has a population around 7.4
million of various nationalities.
Two out of the world’s top 50 universities are in Hong Kong, and four
universities are ranked among Asia’s top ten. Even though Chinese is the local
language, the medium of instruction for most courses is English. Being a
business hub, it is obvious that it has some of the world’s best business
administration and executive business management programmes. It is also a
place for conducting world-class research. Studying in Hong Kong opens
students to the global culture that is brewing in a place where startups are
always taking place, thereby giving them the opportunity to experience the
know-how to exceed in business and business management. Students can stay
after completing their studies for 12 months without any restriction to seek
jobs. Students are advised to buy an Octopus card before even you exit the
airport as they can be used almost everywhere without fumbling for coins.
Hong Kong cuisine has much to offer to satisfy your tastebuds, including dim
sum dishes, barbecue called “Siu Mei” and seafood. Students will never get
bored in Hong Kong, thanks to the imperial and the post-colonial architecture
that have shaped it into a global destination, prominent among them being
Victoria Peak and Disneyland.
